Hump Day in Haiti

It's the middle of the week and we just survived another major thunderstorm last night. The walk to OFCB was quite messy and a little tricky. Balance and a good judge of not-so-deep soft muddy spots are key to a successful jaunt. The walking shoes, however, will require some attention after my return.
All is still going well with the kids, school and church. Still finding different ways to keep them busy and entertained. They have succeeded in learning "The Hokey Pokey" and another movement song called "Tap Your Toes...Just Like That!" The older ones are using more English in their conversations and the younger ones have picked up a few words and know some colors. Everyday I get more excited about the smallest success. They are so eager to learn.
There were two more deaths in the past two days and after attending a funeral yesterday, Lucner and St. Victor learned of another friend who had passed away. Lucner told me that sometimes there are as many as ten or fifteen funerals in a day in Gonaives and it is really a mess when everyone is trying to make the march to the cemetery with the funeral attendees which disrupts the normal chaotic Haitian traffic. He said that the funeral for the pastor last week had about 30,000 people in attendance. The man was well-known and well-loved. I cannot even comprehend that many people trying to maneuver down those narrow streets with a coffin, flowers, elderly people, and small children; in the midst of motor traffic.
We received word that our long awaited school bus will not arrive until the end of May or the first of June. Even then, there will still be some necessary repairs needed for the bus to have it in good working order. It will require a great deal of patience and acceptance on my part. Things we need and could desperately use are on that bus. Many prayers are needed that all will go smoothly.
Hope you will enjoy the pictures that were posted after this blog today. My love to all and many thanks to those who are offering their support. God Bless
